In Nov 1990, 8 thousands residents in Anmyon Island violently protested against

the governments's announcement to establish a nuclear waste dump in the island.

The residents who, until then, had been promised and encouraged by the rural

government's plan to develop the small island into a national sea park and

international resort area, fired police box and refused their childrens to enter

the schools. The 10 days-long heavy struggle finally leaded to the

governement's clean slate.

The graffitti on the wall, up right, says 'desperate oppose against nuke.'
